چکیده

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the role played by biomechanical and geometrical parameters of endoluminal thrombus and of aortic wall on abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) behaviour. MATERIALS AND METHODS Tensile tests on 21 AAA thrombus specimens from six patients undergoing AAA repair and numerical evaluation of aneurysmal aortic wall stress and strain distribution. Parameters of the analysis were lumen eccentricity, thrombus Young's Modulus and the aortic wall constitutive equation. RESULTS There was a linear stress/strain for all the thrombus specimens. The numerical analyses show the mechanical behaviour of AAA as a function of lumen eccentricity and biomechanical parameters. CONCLUSIONS Well organised thrombus reduces the effect of the pressure load on the aneurysmal aortic wall.

A decoupled fluid structure approach for estimating wall stress in abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a localized dilatation of the aortic wall. The lack of an accurate AAA rupture risk index remains an important problem in the clinical management of the disease. To accurately estimate AAA rupture risk, detailed information on patient-specific wall stress distribution and aortic wall tissue yield stress is required. A complete fluid structure interaction (FSI)...

High Structural Stress and Presence of Intraluminal Thrombus Predict Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm 18F-FDG Uptake: Insights From Biomechanics.

BACKGROUND Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) wall inflammation and mechanical structural stress may influence AAA expansion and lead to rupture. We hypothesized a positive correlation between structural stress and fluorine-18-labeled 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-d-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography-defined inflammation. We also explored the influence of computed tomography-derived aneurysm morpho...

Renoprotective potential of exogen erythropoietin on experimental ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm model: An animal study

Objective(s): The aim of this study is to investigate the renoprotective effect of erythropoietin (EPO) on hypovolemic shock and ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury on kidneys as end-organs in an experimentally-created ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) model.Materials and Methods: Thirty anesthetized Sprague-Dawley male rats were ra...

Biochemomechanics of intraluminal thrombus in abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Most computational models of abdominal aortic aneurysms address either the hemodynamics within the lesion or the mechanics of the wall. More recently, however, some models have appropriately begun to account for the evolving mechanics of the wall in response to the changing hemodynamic loads. Collectively, this large body of work has provided tremendous insight into this life-threatening condit...

Drug Therapy for Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Dear Editor,Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often asymptomatic, less recognized, and causes considerable mortality and morbidity, if missed. The incidence varies from country to country and the occurrence is influenced by modifiable (smoking, coronary heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prolonged steroid therapy) and non-modifiable risk factors (increasing age, male gender, and positive...
